Always a bridesmaid....dress

Early in July a church friend of mine from my hometown got married to a delightful man.  I watched through many photo postings, their engagement, and then as their wedding came together, and showers were thrown, etc.  Then came the wedding day.  As predicted, it was quite beautiful. One of the things that was remarkably beautiful about the wedding was the selection of the bridesmaid dresses.  I've been to a bazillion weddings and when Geoff comes home from a wedding I always request details about the bridesmaid dresses.  He's gotten better at this...much better.  So often the bridesmaid dresses are, to put it lightly, GOD AWFUL!

Frequent problems include but are not limited to:

1. Depending on the time of day, the length should be taken into consideration
2. different sizes of bridesmaids, which almost always results in somebody looking uncomfortable
3. wrong color considering the given colors in the church space
4. materials of dress-the wrong material can result in awkward draping regardless of size/shape
5. does it accent the bride or over power the bride...after all it is her day.

I could add several more things to to each section of this list that frequently make me tsk, tsk, tsk but alas, I don't have to for this particular bride.  She and her maids did a good job selecting their wedding apparel. (insert your round of applause)

A close up of the neck, waist, bodice detail.  Very pretty and really quite charming in a romantic way which is perfect for a summer wedding near the 4th of July.

After seeing the many photos from this wedding, I myself became rather interested in persuing one of these dresses for myself.  Today I thought, "well you could at least ask her where it came from"....In my experience sometimes folks don't like to share. Once I asked, she wrote me right back with the details.  Should the post be on time, I will receive my very own dress later this week.

Happy wedding day Chelsea and Marc.

I am proud to say that I have been a fan of the Clintons since, well I was in the 3rd grade.  I remember going to Washington in the winter of 1993 and seeing all the "Hillary" parafanalia.  And equally as memorable, I remember standing next to Hillary and Chelsea in 2008 during a stop on her Presidential Campaign.

Today I waited with my high expectations and baited breath (in a good way) to see Miss Chelsea Clinton in her custom made Vera Wang wedding gown. And just as predicted....She looked beautiful. Additionally, a round of applause for our Secretary of State!  She also looked lovely.

I might of "hopped a fence" for this!...well that is more figurative than literal since they spent a small fortune on the amped up security. 

Chelsea has lived her life (beautifully) under a microscope with the whole world watching. I remember seeing her in 1992 with her crazy curls and in January of 1993 on her father's first inauguration day wearing her blue coat and hat. OH man, did I want a coat and hat like Chelsea's!

On her wedding day, just as any other day for her in the public eye, she's done it beautifully. Congratulations Chelsea and Marc.

Windows, Shimdows

I have been reminded ever so kindly in the past 5 1/2 months of unemployment that when "God closes a door he/she opens a window" and each time I hear it I smiley sweetly as though I accept this fair weathered comment. 

Today I was reminded for the 4,593,399th time of this phrase (sigh). Today, of all days, it stuck with me much longer than it has the previous times and seemingly so has been much harder to shrug off.  

While making preparations to blog tonight I found this sign on Google.  

It made me laugh (hard).  So while perhaps my door/window situation seems to be a little bit non existent, I do find it funny (that for the time being) I was able to have a little laugh during my "layover" 

Memphis...and a Boychoir

This week I have been working (with my husband) during the Memphis Boychoir summer camp.  There are 22 boys in attendance for the Monday through Friday 9:00am-4:00pm camp. During that time the boys do A LOT of singing, participate in some snack consumption, procession practice, music theory trivia, and a few outings.  Today was the first outing of the week, we visited the newly renovated University of Memphis Law School. And P.S. it is absolutely beautiful!

Do you ever.....?

I always read on other blogs that folks are finding fantastic things on craigslist.  Every once in a blue moon I look on the tri-state area listings but never find anything that is nearly as fantastic as others.

Tonight I was looking for some low cost items for a friend who is moving into a great mid-town apartment and found something that dazzled every jewel in my eye.  A round royal purple norwalk ottoman.

This orange ottoman was shown in High-Heeled Foot in The Door on July the 8th.  I LOVED it immediately.  I have no idea where in the world I would put that fabulous thing, but the point is that I think it is fabulous.

The price tag on this ottoman was $68 and is Kravet.

We'll see if my purple find is still available....keep those flanges crossed. 

mid-century-nouveaux?

Today I was out with a pal....just paling around and we started up the "antique" path that is also known as Summer Avenue. We stopped at a rather sketch establishment (is there an antique mall that isn't?). It has obviously been there for a long while...I'd just not noticed.  Please keep in mind, to the bulk of Memphians I am still a novice.  Frankly it is a miracle I know where Summer Avenue is.

Color me happy, it was a thunderous sun shower of fabulous things.  Some of the prettiest rugs I've ever seen, fabulous framed photos and even an item with a tag that read "risque ashtray"....seriously? 


The whole place made me purr.

One of the booths that I came across was full of mid century-nouveaux items. This couch being exhibit "a". And yes, I'm madly in love with it.  It is a light gray quilted silk upholstery and this very couch possesses one of my favorite qualities....1 seat cushion. It is practically perfect.

When I went to the counter to make an inquiry about this fine item...the man smiled before saying, "I'm not able to offer it for sale just yet as it is wrapped up in a bankruptcy trial."  (Par-done moi?) Naturally I had to chuckle as I had imagined that the man would say, this couch costs $___X____ but no...this couch is the bankruptcy couch.

So, I have to wonder even if this couch does come with an affordable price tag, does one invite items into their home that could possibly come with bad karma? Or do we really believe in that?

Who loves an armoire? I do...I do....

We bought this armoire about a year ago and had it restored, and had a shelf made for the inside to house (our TV) electronics.  In this process I wasn't sure what should be done other than it needed sealed.  So...that's all we did.  It has been in our home now for several months and now I'm thinking about what the possibilities COULD be.

Here are some potential options.....
